Glamorama Glides into Chicago
MC Hammer and Cyndi Lauper Delight

August 22, 2008 by blagica

Chicago surprised me yet again.

I had the pleasure of attending the afternoon dress rehearsal for the annual Glamorama Fashion Show.  Produced by Macy’s, this year’s show will raise money for the Art Institute of Chicago.  Pop Arcade was the theme, complete with a technical spectacle of light and sound that made my Friday afternoon fly – and it was only 1 pm.

From the stage production to the ebb and flow of the models, I could have plucked me and my best friend out of that audience and into New York City’s Byrant Park – it was that good.  I fell in love with C’N’C’ pieces, along with a few dramatic Donna Karan dresses. It also looks like the 70s are back with some Zing, care of Just Cavalli.

Of course, the show was mainly about fashion, but a few performances got the crowd off of their chairs. MC Hammer and Cyndi Lauper belted some of their classic hits and raised the energy of the Chicago Theatre a few notches! From models to hair stylists to grandmothers, the audience was filled with such a cross section of the city – it was amazing. I couldn’t help but smile when I saw an woman grab a fella from across the aisle and dance to Lauper’s ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ song.

Thank you to the Chicago arm of GenArt for inviting me in to the dress rehearsal!

Now if I can just rework my budget to buy a whole new fall wardrobe…
